Desperate to connect one last time with his lost daughter, a grieving man enters a dark cave, and so begins his journey into the underworld of spirits. Printworks London Mark Padmore, Elaine Mitchener and the London Sinfonietta perform the world premiere of a new opera by composer Tansy Davies and librettist Nick Drake, the award-winning team behind Between Worlds.
Composer Tansy Davies and librettist Nick Drake collaborate again on a new work, Cave, for London Sinfonietta and The Royal Opera. Davies is a leading figure in British contemporary music. She burst onto the stage in 2015 with her operatic debut Between Worlds, a collaboration with Drake inspired by the events of 9/11. For The Independent the opera ‘announce[d] Tansy Davies as the most original new voice in the game’. The opera went on to win Davies the prestigious British Composer Award. In the cavernous space of The Printworks, Davies and Drake’s new music theatre work follows a grieving man’s quest for survival and renewal, in a dystopian future of desert shopping malls and melting ancient glaciers.
